Branding Photography for Kamini Wood: Authentic Storytelling for a Human Potential Coach

Meet our friend, Kamini Wood. Kamini is a Human Potential Coach from Apex, NC and we have had the privilege of photographing Kamini and her family for a while now. We loved helping Kamini translate her business’ messaging in her personal branding photography and it’s a total honor. Kamini reached out to us when she needed updated headshots and branding portraits that felt true to her coaching style—gentle, warm, and approachable—while giving her versatile images to refresh her website, social media, and podcast marketing.

When you’re looking for a coach, making sure that you connect with them is everything. As a client, you want to know the person behind the brand – who are they? Are they trustworthy? Does their personality feel like the right fit for your journey? Those are the questions that Kamini wanted to answer when she reached out to Teresa Porter Photography. To make sure that she had refreshed branding photography that showed her clients who she is and how she can help them on their journey.

Personal Branding Photography is all about telling your brand’s story and letting us bring it to life. Are your branding portraits saying all that they need to?

Tailored Branding for a Personal Touch

To create the perfect setting for Kamini’s session, we rented a beautifully staged house in Raleigh, NC, that offered a variety of natural settings and backdrops. From cozy living room corners to a professional home office setup for posed podcasting portraits and a stunning patio bathed in natural light, each space provided the perfect canvas to reflect Kamini’s brand essence.

We focused on capturing Kamini in moments that felt authentic and relatable. Whether she was sitting at her laptop, recording a podcast with her microphone, or sipping coffee in a quiet moment, each image reflected the calm, supportive presence she brings to her coaching practice. Every branding portrait was carefully crafted to showcase her professionalism and warm personality.

One of the most personal touches was incorporating Kamini’s endearing family pet into her branding session. These candid moments of interaction with her dog added a heartwarming, down-to-earth layer to her small-business branding, and helped to remind her clients that the person guiding them through their personal growth is approachable, compassionate, and most importantly, real.

A Visual Story That Works Across Platforms

The final collection of branding images provided Kamini with a visual story that she could use across every platform, which is more than professional headshots alone could give. The cozy, relaxed personal branding portraits highlighted her nurturing coaching style, while the professional home office setup gave her polished options for her website, speaking engagements, and business platforms.

The natural light on the patio brought an added warmth to her branding photography, tying everything together with the calm, inviting feel that defines her work. Now, whether Kamini is updating her website, promoting a podcast episode, adding a blog post to her website, or posting on social media, she has images that not only look beautiful but also undeniably feel like her.

5 Types of Branding Images Every Entrepreneur Needs

5 Types of Branding Images Every Entrepreneur Needs

For entrepreneurs, strong visuals help build trust and create consistency across your brand. While polished professional headshots are a great place to start, having a wider range of branding images gives your business the flexibility to show up with clarity and confidence across every platform. Personal branding photography gives the opportunity for portraits and content that are tailored to your business, and can be used across your website, marketing materials, social media and more. They help your brand to to stay consistent, feel more personal, and make a strong impression wherever your audience connects with you.

If you are wondering where to begin, here are five types of branding images that we recommend every entrepreneur should have:

  1. A Classic, Professional Headshot: This is the image you’ll use again and again for your LinkedIn profile, speaking engagements, business cards, email signatures and, of course, the bio on your website. Professional headshots can be more formal, or cozy and relaxed, and sets the tone of who you are. It helps clients take you seriously from the start.
  2. Images On-site at your Workplace: Show what your work looks like in action. Whether you’re on a video call, using a tool of your trade, creating something by hand, consulting in-person with a client, teaching a class, or simply being in your workspace, these branding images offer a glimpse into your process. They help your audience visualize working with you and reinforces their sense of connection with you.
  3. Lifestyle Portraits: More relaxed than your traditional company headshots might be, lifestyle branding portraits allow your personality to come through. These are great for the “about” pages and photography for social media, where you can adopt a more casual tone that still feels cohesive with your brand.
  4. Product or Service Imagery: If your business involves products or any kind of service, high-quality visuals that show them are essential. These branding images visually tell the story of what you offer and how it helps your clients.
  5. Environmental Branding: This includes portraits captured in spaces that reflect your style and values. Whether that’s your home office, a favorite coffee shop, or a studio space, these portraits help add visual interest and keep your brand identity consistent.

For entrepreneurs, it’s so important that you have branding images that reflect your business and all the work you have put into it.

Why This Matters

Having a collection of website branding images means you’re never scrambling for the right portrait when it’s time to update your site, create a new offer, or schedule a social post. Branding images like these should always be true to your brand, keeping things consistent and make it easier for your audience to recognize, remember, and engage with what you do.

Team Headshots for Capital to Coast Realty: Real Estate Branding from The Oak City to North Carolina’s Beautiful Coastline

Team Headshots for Capital to Coast Realty: Real Estate Branding from The Oak City to North Carolina’s Beautiful Coastline

Meet our friends, Mackenzie and Pam. Mackenzie Sottini and Pamela Saxman lead Capital to Coast Realty, and know that strong first impressions build lasting client relationships. With offices in both Raleigh and Wilmington, they needed a collection of team headshots and branding portraits that captured their reach, reflected their lifestyle approach, and delivered a full year of content for everything from LinkedIn profile pictures to photography for social media and team bio pages. We previously had the honor of capturing senior portraits for Mackenzie’s daughter, Abby, and she loved them so much that she has since entrusted us with her business’ branding portraits, too. We could not be more thrilled!

In a competitive real estate market, like that of the busy Raleigh, North Carolina area and in beachy Wilmington, North Carolina, looking put-together online is crucial for instilling trust for future clients. Your clients are checking you out before they ever schedule a showing, and your branding portraits are speaking for you before you say a word. That’s why team headshots that reflect your brand’s personality, professionalism, and expertise are one of the most valuable marketing tools you can invest in.

From North Carolina’s capital city to its beaches, our team headshots session with Capital to Coast Realty showcased their relationship to the areas they operate in.

Tailored Branding in the Oak City

We designed a custom Branding Experience for the Capital to Coast team, with multiple locations (in Raleigh and the Wilmington area), to reflect the dual nature of their business and the areas that they cover. This session is our most comprehensive offering, created specifically for businesses who want an intentional, editorial collection of portraits that work across platforms and even printed material.

In Raleigh, we started with a styled shoot at a beautifully styled home in nearby Wake Forest. It was a gorgeous setting that mirrored the caliber of properties the team represents, with airy rooms, clean lines, and tons of natural light . From there, we moved into the city for a walking tour of some of the Triangle’s most photogenic locations. The Warehouse District, Boylan Heights, and Dorothea Dix Park gave us backdrops ranging from urban and edgy to soft and natural, with the Raleigh skyline tying everything together and adding specificity to their branding portraits.

Each agent received a professional headshot, and we captured team portraits in action, from candid connections to posed whole-team portraits. Our focus was to create images that communicate not just what they do, but how they work together and why future clients should trust them.

Bringing their Beachside Brand to Life

A few weeks later, we packed up and headed to Wilmington for our next branding photography session. We styled a morning in a sun-filled coastal home office, perfect for clean, modern website branding photography and casual lifestyle portraits. Then we took the entire team to nearby Carolina Beach, capturing employee headshots with wind in their hair and the ocean in the background.

We ended our time in Wilmington with a picture-perfect rooftop session for Mackenzie and Pam, as the business owners. Their founder portraits felt elegant, perfectly on-brand and reflected their close relationship. We loved creating realtor headshots for the entire Capital to Coast team, but this more intimate session with the business owners allowed us to create tailored personal branding photography, partnering with them to reflect the leadership behind their brand.

Whether you’re looking for company headshots or branding portraits that showcase your journey, we will bring your vision to life with beautiful portraits.

Headshots and Capital to Coast’s Visual Strategy

From Raleigh’s glittering skyline to Wilmington’s sandy beach scenes, our on-location branding sessions gave the Capital to Coast team a comprehensive collection of portraits they can use throughout the year. Their final gallery included:

  • Professionally edited individual team headshots for each agent,
  • Personal branding portraits for Mackenzie and Pam,
  • Group portraits that feel real, warm, and make a statement,
  • Casual, content-ready images for newsletters, social posts and print work,
  • On-brand, location-specific real estate branding images for both Raleigh and Wilmington marketing campaigns
  • A collection of website branding images that align with their clean, modern aesthetic

This is what we mean when we say business storytelling. We create branding portraits aren’t just beautiful, but that also let clients see your values and the story behind your business.

What to Wear for Your Headshots in 2025: A Guide for Professionals

What to Wear for Your Headshots in 2025: A Guide for Professionals

Getting ready for your professional headshots doesn’t need to be complicated. A little thought ahead of time can make a big difference. One of the most common questions we are asked is what to wear for your headshots, and for good reason. Your outfits play a key role in how you feel during your session and how your final collection of portraits look and feel Whether you’re refreshing your LinkedIn profile, updating your website, or building a personal brand, your wardrobe should support your goals and help you feel like your best self.

Why Outfit Choice Matters for your Professional Headshtos

Your clothing adds to the overall tone of your image, giving a sense of your style, your confidence, and how you show up professionally. The goal for your professional headshots is to draw attention to your face without bold prints or distracting details pulling focus, while creating a modern, refreshed look. When done right, your outfits work quietly in the background, helping tell the story you want to share.

A collection of modern professional headshots showcasing what to wear for your headshots in 2025.

Whether your brand is more formal or relaxed and casual, we’ll help you choose what to wear for your headshots for a completely stress-free experience.

Tips for Choosing What to Wear for Your Headshots:

  1. Go for Solid Colors: Patterns can be tricky in photos. Solid colors keep things clean and timeless. Jewel tones, warm neutrals, and classic darker shades like navy are often flattering on camera.
  2. Pick Comfortable, Flattering Fits: Make sure that your clothing is not too tight or loose-fitting. Look for pieces that feel good and look sharp, such as tailored jackets or shirts.
  3. Plan a Wardrobe with Variety: We recommend bringing a mix of looks in different colors and styles. We’ll help guide you through the rest.
  4. Layer for Depth and Texture: Layers add dimension and allow you to create multiple looks easily. Adding variety in the texture of fabrics, like lace or knits, can also add visual interest.
  5. Pay Attention to Your Necklines and Sleeves: A neckline that flatters your face is key, but try having a variety of necklines, to keep your headshots fresh. For sleeves, try not to go for cap sleeves or sleeveless tops, which can sometimes not photograph well.
  6. Choose Accessories with Intention: Jewelry should complement your outfit without stealing the attention away. Whether you love subtle studs or prefer slightly bolder pieces, pick what feels authentic to you.

Be You, With Us

At Teresa Porter Photography, we’re here every step of the way, and that includes helping you prepare for your professional headshots session. Personal Branding Photography for Evan Kochuk: From Piano Keys to Professional Portraits

Personal Branding Photography for Evan Kochuk: From Piano Keys to Professional Portraits

Meet our friend, Evan Kochuk. After ten years without updated headshots, Evan, from Apex, knew it was time for a refresh. Evan was looking for headshots that he could use at work, but most importantly, that would be casual and tailored to his interests, so that he could use them on his personal social media and that his parents would treasure as keepsakes. When it came to Evan’s personal branding photography we knew that our focus had to be on authentic images that reflected his personality, and captured the things that matter most to him.

A Tailored Experience from the Start

To ensure Evan’s portraits felt right for him, we started with a design consultation. Together, we explored his vision for the session, from the overall tone to consulting on what he planned to wear. Rather than suggesting new purchases, we focused instead on working with the clothes Evan already owned, helping him put together outfits that were comfortable, stylish, and perfectly suited for the look he wanted to achieve.

Personal branding photography for professional man in Ape, NC. Formal headshots, artist headshots, personal branding images, musician headshots.

We loved seeing Evan’s energy come to life at his piano and around the area that he calls home.

Passion and Personality

For Evan’s portrait session, we ventured to Apex, NC (his hometown) and parts of nearby Cary, and made sure to feature his love of playing the piano and reading for a unique, personal touch. We incorporated both into his personal branding portraits, creating images that went beyond professional headshots to show what lights him up outside of work. We loved seeing his energy come to life at the piano, showing his musical ability and dedication to his craft. Incorporating Evan’s local area and his hobbies into his personal branding portraits helped to reflect Evan’s genuine personality and the place that he calls home.

Throughout the session, we focused on creating a variety of personal branding images, with some more polished and professional for platforms like LinkedIn, and others more relaxed and personal for social media photography and personal branding. The result was a collection of portraits that Evan could use across every corner of his life and career.

Portraits Worth Sharing (and Framing)

One of the most rewarding parts of this session was knowing that the final portraits were ones Evan’s mom would want to hang on her wall. Personal branding portraits are not just about having a great headshot; but creating beautiful images that feel so authentic and meaningful that they deserve a place of pride and will be treasured for years to come.

Personal Branding Photography That Reflects You

At Teresa Porter Photography, we believe that personal branding photography should capture all the things that make you, you. Whether you’re updating website branding images, getting professional headshots taken for the first time in a decade, or you’re simply ready for portraits that feel more like you, we’re here to make the process seamless, enjoyable, and completely tailored to you.

Feeling Camera-Shy? How to Relax and Look Confident in Your Executive Headshots

Feeling Camera-Shy? How to Relax and Look Confident in Your Executive Headshots

If the thought of stepping in front of a camera makes you uneasy, you’re not the only one. Plenty of professionals feel uncomfortable being photographed, especially when the goal is to create polished executive headshots. But, we have good news: with some thoughtful preparation and our expert support, your headshot session can feel relaxed and we think you will even enjoy it!

Why Do We Feel Camera-Shy?

Let’s go back to the ‘why’. Why do we feel camera-shy, and what can we do to fix that? Camera-shyness often stems from uncertainty. Many people aren’t sure how to pose or worry about facial expressions and how they will look in their outfit choices. This lack of familiarity can turn a simple portrait session into something that feels really intimidating and can act as a roadblock to a successful session. At Teresa Porter Photography, we have a stress-free process so that you don’t have to go it alone. We’ll partner with you to remove that pressure by making sure you feel prepared and supported from the very beginning.

A variety of Executive Headshots in different environments.

When it comes to your executive headshots, feeling comfortable in front of the camera is the most important thing. We’ll help you get there.

How to Feel Confident During Your Executive Headshots Session

  1. Choose the Right Outfits – Knowing how to prepare for a headshot session starts with wardrobe. We’ll help you with personalized guidance during your consultation and on the day, so you never have to guess what works. With three outfit choices in our Headshot Marathon sessions, we’ll make sure that your outfits fit your brief and that you look and feel your best, too.
  2. You Can Leave the Posing to Us – You don’t need to memorize poses or worry about what to do with your hands. We have years of experience in helping our clients feel authentic in their headshots. We’ll guide you at every step through natural positioning and we’ll capture candid moments along the way.
  3. Breathe and Relax – It sounds simple, but slowing your breathing can make a big difference in how you look on camera. A calm expression paired with a relaxed posture helps bring out your natural confidence, and when you’re relaxed, we’ll get to capture your natural smile!
  4. Lean on Our Experience – We’ve worked with entrepreneurs, realtors, attorneys, coaches, creatives and professionals across every industry. Our process is designed to help you feel comfortable, so your executive headshots reflect your best self.

Don’t Take Our Word for it – Here’s What Our Clients Say About Pre-Session Nerves:

“I couldn’t be happier with my headshots — they turned out even better than I expected! I came into the session feeling quite nervous, as I’ve never considered myself particularly photogenic and typically don’t enjoy having my picture taken. But Teresa made the entire experience easy, fun, and genuinely enjoyable. Her guidance, encouragement, and eye for detail helped me feel confident and relaxed — and it absolutely shows in the final photos.” – Jan Smith

“I needed headshots, and I dreaded it. I hate getting my picture taken. I mean, I do pretty much anything to avoid it, and I had put off headshots for about five years past when I needed them. The morning of my scheduled session, I was dreading it so much that I actually wrote the email apologetically canceling… I couldn’t imagine there would be a photo I’d like. For some reason, thank goodness, I decided to actually show up, and predictably, it was less painful than I expected. I still don’t like getting my picture taken, but Teresa is delightful. So when it came time to review the images my plan was just to pick one that I could tolerate to use on my LinkedIn, etc. It never occurred to me I’d actually LIKE any. But I tell you what, that Teresa is a magician. Because when it was all said and done, I bought five pictures… and I’m so happy with them… If you have photo anxiety like I do, I’m telling you: run, don’t walk to see Teresa Porter.” – Carrie Wells

“She has a true gift for making you feel at ease and bringing out your best on camera. The photos are stunning, but it’s the care, creativity, and magic Teresa brings to the process that sets her apart.” Krista Fuller

“I needed updated headshots for my professional and personal profiles and… Teresa made it so easy. She put me at ease and the hair and makeup session before the photo shoot was amazing. I felt so beautiful and respected.” – Carolyn Jungclas
